On Thursday the 30th April we made it to the
Yalara Caravan Park at Uluru. In 2013 we had visited Uluru and the Olgas but it
was overcast and cold the whole time. Because of the cloud we did not get to
see any changing colours on the rock. Although there was cloud there was little
or no rain so we didn’t get to see water cascading off the rock either.
So we had some unfinished business here, and now the weather
was beautiful. The afternoon we arrived we went to the rock and watched the
sunset. The colours really do change. During most of the day the rock is a
purple/brown. It changes through to pink and various colours. What we found
amazing was that after the sun had dropped and we thought it was all over the
rock lit up in an amazing brilliant shine. We could not work out how it happens
because the sun had dropped below the horizon. We saw three sunsets on the rock
and it happened twice.
Next morning we went and saw the rock at sunrise and the
Olgas in the distance. Whilst it was lovely it was not as spectacular as the
sunset and little colour change.
This is the view of the rock from the caravan park with a
bit of zoom at sunset.
On our third day there we went to the Olgas. There was alot
of cloud around so the sunrise on the Olgas was not impressive as it came a bit
late, but the sunrise view back to Uluru was one of the best any of us have
ever seen. It was amazing having that sunrise with Uluru in the picture.
So we finally got our good weather and changing colours on
Uluru and, yes we were very happy.
The Olgas weren't bad either.
