On the 25th April the weather was still overcast
in the morning. I had been keen to go up Rawnsley Bluff but did not think it
was worth it due to the bad weather. Oh well, something left again for next
time. It was Anzac Day and we weren't anywhere to join in, however, we were able to listen to the Gallipoli service. I did think of all my work colleagues working their butt off and was glad not to be with them. Sorry guys.
We had to get some washing done and some maintenance. There
was still time, however, to get out in the afternoon to see some interesting
things we had not got to. Drove up past Wilpena and had a look at a miners hut
from the old copper mining days. It was dug into the ground and was primitive
but because it was dug into the ground it would have provided some coolness in
the summer.
Then went to the Appealinna mine ruins. There are remnants from
around 1856 of a settler’s homestead and miners buildings and there are plaques
that tell interesting stories of life in the area. It was interesting to see
how they lived. I will let all the photos tell the story. Double click on the ones that are hard to read.
