On Monday the 1st of Feb we left Point Drummond
and went to Elliston and stayed at the Waterloo Bay Van Park. It had only been another short drive. On the
way we stopped at a historic cottage, the Lake Hamilton Eating House which was
constructed between 1851 and 1857. Unfortunately we missed the Cummins Cliff
Monument.
In the old days farmers fenced their sheep properties by using the numerous rocks lying around. Many of the fences in this area are still intact but usually there is a wire fence put up beside the stone ones.
After lunch we went on the scenic ocean drive. The coastline
here is amazing. It seems to be that way all around the Great Australian Bight
which the western side of the Eyre Peninsular is on. Photos tell the story so
much better than words.
This is Waterloo Bay at Elliston and the jetty. After our
drive around we had a swim in the bay. We stayed two nights at Elliston. We had a lot of rain the first night and planned on fishing the next day but the weather turned lousy again so we just lounged around.
