Perth & Fremantle

On Monday the 12th October we arrived in Perth and stayed at the Karinyup Van Park which is about 10km north of the city. It is a good park and well situated to see the city.

Did not waste any time getting things done. The Landcruiser need a service so we got that done the next day. Nearby was JB HI Fi as well as a bunch of other computer shops and we replaced our win soaked laptop. We also organised for a replacement electronic key for the cruiser.

Whilst the cruiser was being serviced at Scarbarough Toyota we went down to Scarbarough Beach and had a walk around and a beatiful pizza at a pub there.

On Wednesday the 14th we took a drive out to the Swan Valley and to the town of Guildford. The area is steeped in history and the information centre is definitely worth visiting. There were quite a few wineries and we visited one winery, one cheeze place and the Margaret River Chocolate factory. It was good to go to that area and have an appreciation of the history of Perth.

On Thursday the 15th we went into the city itself. The transport system is pretty good in Perth. There are free buses that take you around the whole city. We had a long walk around Kings Park which is the botanical gardens and war memorial or the city. It is a beautiful city, a great setting for a city.

Next day we took the train to Fremantle with Gail and Craig who were our neighbours at the van park and lovely people. We also went with their friends. Had a great calamari and chips lunch, saw the round house which was the original gaol.

Visited the museum and saw the recovered remains of the Batavia (the story of which was talked about in the Geraldton post). The portico on display is a replica of the real one that is in the Geraldton museum.

Saw a monument to Bon Scott from ACDC who was a Fremantle resident apprently.

For the return back to Perth we had a cruise on the Swan River with Captain Cook Cruises. It was a great day.
