After setting up we went to the National Park and checked out the various lookouts and gorges.
There is an interesting rock formation called 'Nature's Window'. People line up to get a photo of them sitting in it. We couldn't be bothered lining up for it.
After visiting the National Park we went to see some of the coast line which is pretty amazing. There are reefs everywhere on the WA coastline and plenty of stories of shipwrecks. Ran out of time to see all the coast so the next morning after hitching up we saw the rest of it with the van on, as we were heading in that direction anyway.
There was a large pod of dolphins hunting for food at the base of one of the cliffs.
We then went on Port Gregory and saw the Pink Lake. It is an algae farm basically which is used in a way which we have now forgotten.
We stayed that night at Lynton Station which is a working property but is more known for its history. There is a grand homestead on the propert built around 1854. Henry Sanford had convicts build it. He was in charge of a convict hiring station. In the early days WA was not a convict colony, however, they had a manpower problem in establishing the place so they arranged for convicts to be sent to them. The authorities hired out their labour to build roads and buildings and work on pastorlists properties.
The remains of convict hiring station are there to be seen.
