Walpole

On Wednesday the 4th November we went on to Walpole. The forest of mainly Karri, but some Jarrah and Marri, was amazing.

A little bit out of Walpole we pulled into Col and Pam's farm. Back in Broome we were beside Col and Pam in the van park we stayed in for a couple of weeks. They are great people and invited us to stay with them when we got down this way. So we took them up on the offer and they have a beautiful property. It's been very relaxing being here.

The next day we went to the Valley of the Giants Treetop Walk which is near their place. This forest is full of Tingle and Karri trees. It is the only place in the country (apart from one) where this species of eucalypt tree exists. It is a constant wet area which the Tingle tree likes apparently. But all the trees are giants here, third in height only to the American Redwood and the Mountain Ash in Australia. The treetop walk was very well done.

After the Valley of the Giants we went down to Peaceful Bay. On the way up to the lookout in the bush there was a bunch of hangings that had a seaside theme, like fishing reels, surfboards and bouys. A bit weird and funny.

It is a beautiful spot.

On Friday Col and Pam took us for a drive around the whole area. Firstly Col showed us the school he went to near his farm. His grandfather and family came to Australia when his father was nine and they came to the area back then. His father took up the farm on returning from WW11 and they have had the farm ever since. They have had many relatives in the area the whole time and so there is alot of history for him here.

Views around Walpole.

A couple of giant Tingle trees.

The circular pool. The Frankland River flows into this pool here and there is stuff called sapinin which gets in the water causing a front and the water is coloured like tea because of the tannin from leaves.

Common to the area are these beautiful fairy wrens. The male turns this bright blue colour during the mating season.
