Pemberton

The Melbourne Cup had come around again, it was Tuesday the 3rd. Linda wanted to try and celebrate it a bit and the pub at Nannup were doing cold cuts for $30 which I did not fancy so we moved on to Pemberton.

We arrived there, unhitched and went to the sports club next door for the cup. Being three hours earlier in WA it was over by just after midday so it is a bit of a dud in my opinion. But after lunch we drove to the Big Brook Dam which is near town. A lovely spot.

We then went to the Gloucester Tree which is a tall Karri tree. Back in the 1930s a climbing structure was fitted for the purpose of using as a fire spotting platform. There are two other trees in the region they also did this with. I could not resist the urge to climb. The climb was fun and the view from the top would have certainly been a good vantage point for fire spotting.

Then went for a walk around the forest there. The trees were enormous and the forest was beautiful.
