Back to Wyndham

On Wednesday the third we drove back to Wyndham which was only 100km, for a fishing trip. We had not been able to synchronize with friends, Lynn and Wal, to be in Wyndham at the same time but we had met up with their friend Keith who kindly offered to take us barra fishing. We went out on the King River to Wal’s favourite spot. Keith caught some live bait with a cast net. I was nervous as anything about crocs,  having to get right up to the water to get the live bait but the tide had not come in at that time and the water was shallow.

We there at the right time as the tide came in quick. We saw a massive croc once were back up on the river bank and at the fishing spot, but were not quick enough to get a photo. I was nervous about the crocs again but knew we were OK as we were up on the river bank a bit. Anyway we were not lucky enough to get a barra but I did have one on the line for a while. I found out barra fishing is a little different. The barra has a taste of the bait to decide if he wants to eat it. If he wants it he blows the scales off and chomps it. Three times the barra had a chew of my bait but did not take it. The rod bent three times but I was out of luck.

After fishing we went on a little further to the Prison Boab Tree. Back in the early days the Police Constables use to use the boab trees as prison trees when camping. At this particular tree the constable would have the aboriginals chained up to the tree. The constable would be inside and put steel bars in the hole so as he would not get speared by any aborigines wanting to free their mob who were chained up.

We then went a spot nearby where there was some aboriginal art. Unfortunately some people are in the habit of painting over some of the art to try and show it up better, such as in the photo using white colours,  but I think it spoils it.

While we were there we saw a mating pair of brolgas, just beautiful.

Well we did not get any fish (except for that which we bought from the professional fisherman at Wyndham) but we had a great day, thanks to Keith. To top things off, as a souvenier he gave Linda his pink shirt which was a special 2015 Wyndham sports fishing shirt.
