We left Dubbo on Tuesday 13th April and drove
through Narromine and Trangie and went onto Nyngan for lunch. We had entered
the Bogan Shire and I recently heard that some organization had applied to the
council to have a ‘big bogan’ erected at Nyngan. Just like Coffs Harbour have
their big banana and somewhere in QLD has their big pineapple, Nyngan want a
big bogan. They propose to have a big statue of a man in his stubby shorts and
thongs with his fishing rod and dog. I hope they do it, would love to see that.
Lunch in Nyngan, not our best lunch spots but convenient.
We went onto a free camp 119km west of Cobar for the night.
The way I have been spending money in preparation for the trip and being away
for 12 months, I love that word ’free’. We arrived about 4pm and there was no one there
at that camp yet. Only four more travelers pulled in and stayed the night.
There were more but there was no toilet so they did not stay. I think it is
still very early in the dry season for the top end and so there aren’t that
many travelers yet. In a months time that free camp would be full.
I had grasshopper splatterings all over the Cruiser and van
from that leg of the trip.
We are heading into bad weather but the cloud build up meant
we had a nice sunset.
And a nice sunrise as well. You might see a few more sunset
and sunrise photos over the next 12 months.
